While professional athletes and fans of cycling watch the Tour de France world race, the Almaty marathon announces the opening of the registration for the fifth anniversary of the Tour of World Class Almaty, which will be held in Almaty in a month, on August 19. About a thousand cycling amateurs will take part in it. Athletes will overcome one of three routes with a length of 14 km, 34 km and 57 km.
Athletes will start by tradition at the «Mega Alma-Ata» shopping and entertainment center, Rozybakiyev Street. The shortest distance for participants between the ages of 12 and 17 is 14 km. The route will run through Rozybakiyev Street and Al-Farabi Avenue.
For participants from 18 years old, the distances are 34 km and 57 km. The main streets that are included in the route are Rozybakiyev Street, Al-Farabi Street, Sain Street. Cyclists of the 57 km after will go to Momyshuly Street and Ak-Kainar Street (towards Auto PSC). A detailed plan and road closure schemes will be provided closer to the competition.
Participants on road and mountain bicycles are allowed to participate. Winners will be awarded according to their age category.
“This year the cycling race will be held for the fifth time. This is a significant event for our team, it is after the Almaty Marathon in scope and level of organization", - says Saltanat Kazybayeva, Director of the Almaty Marathon. "In Almaty every year there are more bike paths, bike parks, bicycle rental systems and cyclists. Amateur cycling is actively being developed in the city. People use bikes to go to work, shopping or to visit their relatives and just to have fun. If you look at the example of other cities and states, we can see urban environment that is completely friendly to cyclists. In such large cities as Copenhagen, Amsterdam, Tokyo, Montreal, Beijing, residents and tourists are happy to use bicycle as the main means of transport. This is a whole culture. The bike is useful not only to its owner, but also to the city - it is safe for the environment, does not create congestion on the roads, noiseless and allows you not only to get from one point to another, but also to enjoy the trip».
Participants for 14 km will start the race at 8.00 a.m. Cyclists for 57 km and 34 km will leave at 9.00 and 9.05 respectively.
Start fee:
For participants of the 57 km race - 6000 KZT;
For participants of the 34 km race – 5000 KZT;
For participants of the 14 km race – 2000 KZT.
Registration and payment for participation will be carried out on the website www.almaty-marathon.kz from July 19, 2018 till August 13, 2018 or until the total number of participants reaches 1000 people.
