On Thursday, March 12, the organizers of the Almaty Marathon, which is scheduled for April 19, announced the cancellation of the sports event amid a government ban on public events in Kazakhstan. For this reason, participants who already registered for this largest running competition of the region had a number of questions.
From March 13 2020 Kazakhstan government imposes ban on public events over the coronavirus, unfortunately we are forced to cancel the Almaty Marathon.
The Organizing Committee of the Almaty Marathon carefully tracks information as the new virus spreads across the world. Nevertheless, preparation for the main running event goes as planned.
The prize money for the Almaty Marathon 2020 will be 4,300,000 KZT.
According to tradition, part of the funds raised from the registration fees of the participants of Almaty Marathon is annually directed to charity.
Almaty Marathon is included in the number of qualifying races for participation in the World Marathon Championship
October 14, registration for the Almaty Marathon 2020 is open. Now, participants in the marathon can apply for participation in the World Marathon Championship in age categories.
This weekend, October 13, the second Almaty Half Marathon will start. Amateur athletes from all regions of Kazakhstan and another 25 countries of the world will participate in the competition.
On July 1st 2019, registration opens for the sixth annual “World Class Almaty Tour” cycling race. The race starts on August 18th. All cycling enthusiasts (non-professional athletes) on a road or MTB (mountain) bikes can take part on one of three routes.
July 22nd saw the Summer Run in the Almaty Arena sports and entertainment complex. 1200 runners ran a distance of 12 km. There was also a 3km children's race and an 8km Nordic walking race.
